Overview

The REMS US Compliance Controller develops, implements, and enforces department and/or line of business compliance nationally, ensuring quality while mitigating risk to our Clients and the Company. Also responsible for managing the relationship with
our external auditors.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing the internal and external audit plans for REMS Property Management and Property Management Accounting. Ensure that the plans are comprehensive, consistent, cohesive, and effective. Responsible for ensuring audit concerns are communicated, remediated, and reevaluated.
  • Ensure existence and maintenance of SOC policy and procedure documentation and training to build a robust culture of compliance to ensure superior outcomes for Clients.
  • Establish roles and responsibilities within the business to allow for proper collaboration, alignment, and support of SOC compliance.
  • Educate and inform service delivery leaders on Service Organization Controls. Responsible for completion and maintenance of required Service Organization Controls documentation, reports, and report letters. Partners with external auditors when necessary.
  • Responsible for RFP process to identify SOC Independent Auditor and determining scope of SOC Audit.
  • Provide SOC audit execution coordination across the business and manage relationships with external auditors.
  • Engage in conversations with Clients and potential Clients on the value of SOC1 compliance, the results of the annual audit and other Client SOC and compliance concerns.
  • Serve as expert resource and participates in Compliance consulting engagements upon request.
  • Identify potential risks associated with process changes and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and oversee Business Continuity Plans.

FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Senior Leader with strong accounting, audit, and finance skills, with the understanding of enabling technologies and automation tools needed to support the service delivery teams. Requires expert-level knowledge of global real estate accounting practices and Service Organization Controls compliance.

Qualifications

 

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Advanced degree preferred. A minimum of 10 years of SOC/SOX experience, leadership, and service delivery experience is required.

  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and clients
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with employees, superiors, and customers.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management software. Word, Excel and Powerpoint experience preferred.
