Overview

Working with colleagues across the Market Intelligence Team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a program of research and analysis which will position Avison Young as expert commentators on all aspects of investment in the US real estate market.  This position will leverage your interpersonal and technical skillsets along with your real estate analytical expertise to assemble relevant datasets and use them to develop and communicate data-driven market insights. You will help develop and use a variety of proprietary internal tools as well as multiple external data sources to build a comprehensive picture of the current state and outlook for the real estate investment sector.  You will develop and implement a range of projects to investigate and report on particular trends or issues of relevance to the market.  You will use a variety of qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques to develop and communicate your understanding of the sector to internal and external stakeholders using a wide variety of direct and indirect communication methods.

 

The base salary is aligned with market data and is estimated between $125,000 to $150,000 with the ability to achieve additional compensation through bonus.  This salary range reflects base compensation for the position across all US locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and other factors including relevant education/training, experience, and internal equity.

Responsibilities

  • Work with National and market level colleagues to ensure Avison Young has a clear, data-based, analytically informed view of current trends and future outlook for the US real estate investment sector, for which you are responsible. This view must be informed by wider trends at national and global levels, be updated on a timely basis, and communicated clearly and effectively to key stakeholders.
  • This view will also be informed by analysis and understanding of wider trends in the economy and capital markets, to provide context for our views on real estate as an asset class within a multi-asset portfolio.
  • Having National responsibility, you will primarily focus on multi-market or aggregate national/global analysis alongside investigation of structural or cyclical trends of relevance to the sector, although familiarity with conditions and trends/variations in major markets will also be essential.
  • Liaise with colleagues working in individual markets or regions across the US to ensure appropriate analysis is undertaken to provide understanding of trends and activity in those individual markets, collaborating with them on the production analysis/insight content and outputs as appropriate
  • Develop “subject matter expert” status on the real estate investment sector, communicating effectively with colleagues and clients on relevant trends and market activity
  • Developing a program for and leading the preparation of regular or ad hoc analytical outputs that promote understanding of national and international investment trends and their implications for clients. These outputs may include data products, written commentaries or presentation material as appropriate for the audience concerned.
  • Working as part of a team to engage our investor clients to guide them through market conditions and outlooks by leveraging your analysis together with our proprietary digital data analytics tools alongside other sources and presentation techniques
  • Partnering with our Data Team and other colleagues as necessary to support collection and analysis of economic, demographic and occupier and investment real estate data relevant to the US investment market
  • Leading or participating in press, public relations and real estate industry engagements, including interviews, panel discussions, press releases and presentations;
  • Pursuing a program of continued self-development through the use of selected reading, seminars and participation in continuing education
  • Performing other ad hoc duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in real estate, finance or economics
  • 7+ years of commercial real estate or consulting experience preferred, but other relevant professional experience considered
  • Proven ability to conceive, lead and deliver innovative research projects that provide practical insight into the functioning of real estate markets and the strategies that can be used to operate effectively within those markets
  • Demonstrated track record in initiating, managing, producing and delivering high quality thought leadership content in the spheres of economics, capital markets and real estate investment
  • Proven ability to present the above, in an engaging matter, using different digital mediums to a range of sizes and types of internal and external audiences
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; able to engage, present and communicate with colleagues and clients and produce complex deliverables under tight deadlines in partnership with an interdisciplinary team
  • Highly motivated and energetic individual with the ability to be self-directed and work with minimal supervision
  • Adaptable to thrive in a fast-paced and quickly changing workplace and market environment, with various and evolving client and work priorities.
