Overview

The Building Engineer is responsible for providing assistance and support in the repair, maintenance, and installation of mechanical equipment, machines, tools, and equipment, and in maintenance of buildings, grounds, and utility systems of commercial real estate establishments. Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the candidate will work to complete preventative maintenance, work orders and inspections as required. We are looking for candidate who is dependable, experienced and can work independently in a fast-paced
environment on complex systems to complete the tasks given in a timely fashion. 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities: 

  • Perform light building repairs – carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, ceramic tile
  • Perform daily inspections of mechanical rooms, bus/train exhaust fans, etc.
  • Working knowledge of heat – gas fired boilers, electrical baseboards, air handlers
  • HVAC – working knowledge of centrifugal chillers, chiller towers, fans, computer controls
  • Snow removal – operate plow truck, sander, skid steer, shoveling
  • Respond to tenant requests and needs and coordinates with Property Management Team
    to assist in resolving issues
  • Monitor vendor performance to ensure compliance and standards established in the service
  • agreement are being met
  • Responsible for facilitating maintenance with vendors and construction crews
  • Document repairs on work orders
  • Maintain accurate and pertinent information as required
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with internal tenants, vendors, and
    construction workers
  • Be on call as directed by Chief Engineer: rotating schedule one week per month for night
    and weekend coverage
  • Open and respond to company emails
  • Attend meetings as directed

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in commercial building maintenance
  • Massachusetts driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Must have own hand tools
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to express ideas clearly in written and verbal communications
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
  • Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service
  • Self-motivated, proactive, organized, ability to work independently and as a team
  • Ability to pass background check and drug test

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to move freely throughout the property, including moving up and down stairs.

The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts.  Must be able to move throughout the property, including up and down ladders and stairwells.  May occasionally be exposed to machine noise and inclement weather conditions.  The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
